SelaQui Junior Mastermind 2017-18

The final round of SelaQui Junior Mastermind was held on February 10, 2018. The first round was held prior to vacations in which students from classes 6 to 8 participated but only 10 made it to the finals.

In the finals, there were two rounds. While the first round was the General round, the second was the Specific Round. All the students seemed very excited and nervous at the starting of the quiz but seemed more at ease by the second round. The students had chosen from a variety of topics and each round had 10 questions.

The winner of the Junior Mastermind after the gruelling final rounds was Shourya Mittal and the runners-up were Smaksh Mahajan and Kushagra Agrawal respectively. The audience were asked some questions too and the right answers were rewarded with a chocolate. Quizzes like these encourage learning and emphasize the need for general awareness.

SELAQUI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ORGANIZES INTER- HOUSE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC COMPETITION

The evening saw all four Houses competing in three categories:  Junior Solo , Senior Solo, and Group. The first position for Junior Solo was bagged by Karan Singh Shekawat. Aman bagged the first position in the Senior Category.

The Group event was won by Agni House. The judges of the event were Mr and Mrs Chattopadhay , Indian Classical Music Teachers from Doon School. This competition has definitely raised the bar of music at SelaQui International School.

SelaQui International School, Dehradun organized First All India Tennis Association Championship Series 2014 at its campus. The tournament was conducted by Indian Tennis Federation referee Joy Mukherjee of West Bengal.

Top seed Ishan Anirud Sethi of Uttarakhand won the laurels by winning the U-14 Boys Singles title after defeating Drona Walia by 7-6(3), 6-1.

In the girls category, Kaavya Sawhney of Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious after defeating Yana Dhamija of Haryana by 6-1, 6-2.

Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin, Headmaster, SelaQui International School, Dehradun gave away prizes to the winners.

This camp is a 14 days camp which would take place between 8th to 21st June 2014. This residential camp looks at training students between the age group of 10 to 17. The camp is in collaboration with Mr . Rajkumar Sharma and his dedicated team of coaches. Mr. Rajkumar Sharma has produced many start players like Virat Kholi and also runs the West Delhi Cricket Academy.

The Cricket Camp was inaugurated by the legendry opening batsman of India Mr. Chetan Chuahan, presently the Vice President of the DDCA.  Mr. Chauhan is committed to provide the best training programmes  for development of junior cricket.

This Cricket Camp will cover all aspects of Cricket development for the Boys depending on their age and level. The Highlights of the Coaching Programme will be Equipment Knowledge, Batting and Bowling Correction, Wicket Keeping, Injury Prevention, Fitness Training and Tracking and Defensive Skills.

The other eminent visiting coaches would include Sanjay Bharadwaj, Hemant Ratan, Atul Wassan , Chetan Sharma and Rakesh Shukla.

A Heritage Walk To Jhanda Sahib Gurudwara

  The students of Classes 6,7 8 went for a heritage walk organized by ‘SPIC MACAY’ to Jhanda Sahib Gurudwara, Dehradun on 16 th  Feb’14. The visit to this historical place was of course historically relevant as well as informative .A guide appointed by SPIC MACAY pursued the ‘Heritage Walk’ taking a lot of pride in informing our students about the relevance of the place as well as its history.

The students prepared the following write up as per the knowledge gained from the guide :

The present town of Dehradun was founded in the early eighteenth century by Ram Rai, the elder son of seventh Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai, who came to the area in 1675. Dera (Dehra) refers to a camp, while Dun is a reference to a local term used for a river valley between a smaller mountain range (Shivaliks) and the main Himalayas.

Sikh Guru Har Rai died in 1661 leaving behind two sons, Ram Rai and Harkishen. Both claimed succession, but because Ram Rai was son of a handmaiden, Harkishen was preferred over his brother. Ram Rai, however, refused to abide by the judgement and differences ran so high that the matter was referred to Aurangzeb for arbitration. Aurangzeb also cast his vote in favour of Harkishen and sent Ram Rai away. He, however, did not abandon the pretension of Ram Rai to the spiritual leadership of his sect. Harkishen died in 1664 and was succeeded by his uncle Teg Bahadur. Ram Rai again pressed for his claim and posed a threat not only to his position but also to his life. Teg Bahadur was however, arrested and executed in 1675.

Aurangzeb also directed Ram Rai to retire to wilderness and refrain from meddling in public affairs or face the same fate. Following the emperor’s directive Ram Rai resided for a short time at Kandli on the Tons and then settled down in Kharbara. In order to find a suitable location for his camp he dedicated to pitch a Jhanda tied to a javelin. The spot in village Dhamwala, where his javelin pierced the earth became the dera (base camp) of the guru and is known as Jhanda Sahib. Marking this settlement is a Gurudwara called ‘Ram Rai Darbar’ a seat of the Udasi sect. Guru Ram Rai ji’s seat is still here and a Mahant ji is the head of the Gurudwara. Every year a fair is held here known as Jhanda Mela on the fifth day of Holi- a festival of colors in the sacred memory of the revered Guru.

The art form of the region have greatly influenced the wall paintings at the Durbar Sahib were painted in three phases, from early 17th century to middle of the 19th century. They are a sight to behold. The Archaeological Survey of India has taken up the restoration of Darbar Sahib’s wall paintings depicting the Mughal, Rajasthani and Kangra style of mural paintings. subjects. Most prominent are scenes from the Mahabharat, Gita, Krishna Leela and Ramayan. Besides Noor Jahan, Heer-Ranjha and Laila-Majnu, some Britishers also find place in the paintings of the famous Durbar Sahib.
